Day 7 - Fromista to Bercianos del Real de Camino

We planned for an early start. But we needed dry clothes and so we started the day with some intensive ´dry those clothes´activity. We are not really very experienced in this area of life. We did not have a tumble dryer, there was no sun. So we went for the alternative approach: Sam started ironing wet clothes, Richard used the micro-wave, Jan put his clothes on the heating elements of the kitchen´s oven. Our mums will be proud when they read this. And it worked. Somehow. We put on half-damp clothes. And we have one warning for persons who want to follow in our steps: do not put cycling gloves in the microwave oven! It does not work. Or it works too well. Jan has some extra holes in his gloves now.
The greatest news when finally starting to cycle was the fact that there was no rain. Hurray!
The bad news was the the gale force 9 head wind (why did they not put Santiago in the other direction; didn´t they know that wind from the west is predimonant in these areas?) . We almost had to use our brakes to stop the wind making us going backwards and ending up in Burgos again.
To break the day and our battle with the wind, we had our pilgrims lunch and were happy to arrive in Berceanos del Real de Camino where we booked ourselves into a room above the local bar (the kind of bar with men only and average age well over the retirement age!).
Tomorrow we cycle on towards Leon (and who knows maybe even a bit further). The end of the Meseta which has been much harder for us than expected. We feared the sun. We got rain and wind.
Day 7: 70 kilometres, 4.5 hours, no technical problems with the bikes!
